Firefighters were able to contain a grass fire late Friday afternoon before it reached a home. The blaze came within 10 feet of a house off Highway 171 north of Cresson.

Stewart named interim chief appraiser (Posted Thu 01:57 pm)
Greg Stewart has been named Hood County Appraisal District interim chief appraiser with the pending departure of Jeff Law. Law has accepted the chief appraiser position with Tarrant County.

StoneWater plans to build church near Acton (Posted Thu 08:58 am)
StoneWater church officials are planning to build a church off old Acton Highway between Madison Grill and Cleveland Road. Church officials are expected to close on the 27 acres Friday afternoon at a title company. The church has been meeting in the Brawner school in Misty Meadows.

"Miss Betty" staying put (Posted Thu 08:51 am)
"Miss Betty," the popular city pool and ballpark concession stands operator, is not going anywhere, she and city officials say. Some people mistakenly believe that Betty Davis is being replaced. Not so, the city says. However, the city wants to bring in someone who has certain certifications appropriate for running food operations at the soon-to-open Granbury Resort Conference Center.
